About

We believe that healthcare is a basic human right, and everyone is entitled to high-quality, affordable, comprehensive care. Our mission is to educate and advocate for the establishment of a fully publicly financed single-payer health care program in California and the nation.

We are a state chapter of the non-profit (501c3) national organization Physicians for a National Program, devoted to advancing a universal, comprehensive single-payer national healthcare system. Most of our members belong to active regional chapters within our state.

PNHP-CA’s members are primarily health professionals who have seen and experienced the failings and inequities of our current healthcare system, and found the evidence based alternative that provides universal and comprehensive care more efficiently and at lower cost–single payer/Medicare for all

Our health professional students are important members of our team and are organized by medical school. They are poised to inherit our healthcare system and understand the need for reform.

We work to promote understanding of the benefits of a single payer system both for ourselves and our patients, and advocate for change at the state and national levels.

Our advocacy includes grass roots activism, legislative visits, education, research, writing, and speaking. We ally with other social justice groups who believe healthcare is a human right. Social equity requires health equity.

We encourage you to read more about our work here and on our national website and consider how you can best contribute to creating a fair and comprehensive healthcare system in California and the United States that is accessible to all. Please join us in our campaign to make universal single payer healthcare a reality for all of us.
