Seamen’s Society for Children and Families (Seamen’s Society) respects the privacy of every individual who contacts us.  We are grateful for your support and the crucial role you play in helping us continue our essential work.  As part of our commitment to safeguarding your privacy, we have adopted this Privacy and Terms of Use Policy. This Privacy Statement may be changed or updated at any time.

As indicated above, we value and respect your privacy. If you use the Website or our social media sites, you agree that your activities are covered by this Policy.

This policy also covers our social media accounts including: Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram. In addition to what is specified here, we follow each platform’s respective guidelines.

 

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, Seamen’s Society collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, general location, and the date and time of each visitor request. Seamen’s Society’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how our visitors use our website. From time to time, Seamen’s Society may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

Our goal is to foster a positive environment via Seamen’s Society’s social media pages, through which members of Seamen’s Society’s family and friends can communicate with the agency and with each other. 

Please remember that, as a voluntary member of these respective communities, you are responsible for any correspondence or communication you have with individuals on any page.

We ask that all “fans,” “subscribers,” or “followers” of Seamen’s Society’s social media pages please respect the interests and views of others on the page.  The administrators of Seamen’s Society’s page may delete, report, and/or block any comments/posts and or individuals whose postings or comments the agency deems inappropriate.  Any concerns regarding the use or administration of Seamen’s Society s’ social media pages should be directed to info@seamenssociety.org.

Given the nature of social media, we do have access to member names and any comments they post as well as reactions. We also use analytics from each of the social media platforms, which aggregates information regarding site usage. From time to time, Seamen’s Society may use this information to reach out to individual social media users.

 

Analytics

Our website uses Google Analytics, a service which transmits website traffic data to Google. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. We use reports provided by Google Analytics to help us understand website traffic and webpage usage.

Google Analytics can collect and analyze information on usage behavior anonymously. This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes it for the purpose of preparing reports on the websites themselves. This site does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) the Google analysis tool to monitor or collect personal identification information. Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information (PII)

Certain visitors to Seamen’s Society’s website choose to interact with us in ways that require us to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that we gather depends on the nature of the interaction. 

In each case, Seamen’s Society collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with Seamen’s Society. We do not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. While we do need certain information for financial transactions/donations, donors can opt for their donations to remain anonymous.

Those who engage in transactions with Seamen’s Society are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal and financial information required to process those transactions/donations. Those are securely handled through our Donor Management System, Bloomerang (bloomerang.com/privacy), and/or credit card processor, Stripe, (Stripe — https://stripe.com/privacy) or QGIV (https://www.qgiv.com/privacy-policy) . You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon at the bottom of your web browser or by looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page.

Individuals joining our email distribution list are asked for personal contact information, and distributed emails contain unsubscribe links. Individuals can also request to be unsubscribed by emailing SeamensSocietyNews@seamenssociety.org or by calling 718-447-7740 x4269.

For those submitting inquiries through the website regarding our services, we collect basic personal contact information which is transmitted via email to the appropriate program and staff for timely follow-up.

Donor information

Seamen’s Society is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. The types of donor information we collect and maintain includes but is not limited to:

  • Contact information: name, address, telephone number, email address, and biographical information
  • Giving information
  • Information on events attended, emails received, and special requests for program information
  • Information provided in the form of comments and suggestions

We use your information to understand your interests and update you on our plans and activities. Your information is shared with appropriate staff, board members, volunteers and consultants on a “need-to-know” basis only. You may contact us at any time to request that we cease contacting you, and your request will be honored.

Aggregated Statistics

Seamen’s Society may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its website. For instance, Seamen’s Society may monitor the most popular posts and share that information internally or externally. However, we do not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

We provide information and resources on our Foster Care, Adoption, Family Support Services, FT/R, Domestic/Intimate Partner Violence Awareness, Health Home Care Management, Health and Behavioral Health, tutoring, youth enrichment, and scholarship programs and activities, including articles, press releases, photographs, client stories and case studies, reports, newsletters, video broadcasts, e-newsletters, quarterly updates, annual reports, and interviews with personnel, corporate and community partners, clients, and volunteers (collectively, “Publications”). Unless otherwise expressly stated, all content provided on the Website/social media is intellectual property that belongs to us. You are permitted to download information from the Website for your own personal informational use. For any other use, you must obtain express written permission from us. You may not use or duplicate any of our logos or trademarks without express written permission from us.
